I purchased a Nexus NX wireless wind system and had considerable trouble trying to get it to work.

Initially I received good support from Nexus in Sweden (the UK distributor changed after I purchased the system) and they sent me a complete new system, then various parts as the replacement system would not work.

This season I have managed to get it to work worked intermittently.

My various emails to Nexus have gone completely unanswered over the last few months, leaving me totally disillusioned with my expensive purchase.

There is no consistency in the times when it stops sending data to the display unit.

Has anyone else had any experience with this kit and can you offer any advice on how to get this to work?

I bought one about a year ago. Worked fine, but there was a small problem with the display, whichj wouldn't allow me to enter an offset on the wind direction.

The UK distributors at the time were completely useless! I only got action by means of threats.

Since then it's been fine. Very occasionally it loses the signal, but not for any length of time.

Are you sure sunlight is getting to the solar panel? No bird **** on it?

PS - I love the way the forum automatically asterisked out the word 'sh*t'.

Was just condsidering this kit for my boat as I had heard good comments from one user and I liked the idea of wireless for the masthead unit.

Perhaps I will watch this thread develop first!

I think you are referring to the system that I have installed on Sirenia.
That is a fully wired NX2 system not the wireless one.
I must say that I find the system very good and the displays very adaptable.
I did have an issue during installation as I was told that I could use the old Navman log and depth transducers with the system but could not get it working.
Now using an Airmar combined depth & speed head.

I am about to re-fit with new wind / speed log instruments and am keen on the Nexus displays. The old B&G (hercules vintage) depth sounder is still working so we will keep that as a back-up. So far the Nexus distributor has been accessible and answers queries promptly. His judgment is that the wireless wind instrument is probably less reliable than tthe wired variety - but that the failure rate is small in either case. And most of the wireless problems are solved within a month of installation. I hope he's right, since I think we will plump for wireless technology. Distrubutors are Allspars - talk to james@allspars.co.uk. I'll let you know how we get on.

I have had one on our boat for three years now, as I did not want to have to install yet another wire up the mast. Initially I had a defective battery, (I had installed the display screen and was testing the mast head unit before it was installed at the masthead), but once this was replaced by the UK agent at that time it has worked OK. I do get the very occasional glitch when the display does not show, but it returns after a few minutes.
I have been unable to set the calibration offset that is shown in the manual. I have just had the mast taken down and will ensure that the alignment is correct when it goes up again.

TicTak do a similar system. Does anyone have experience of that?

Nexus wireless wind instrument problems

I realise this thread is a bit old but I'm having the exact same trouble with my nexus wireless unit.
Even with the transducer only 3 or 4 meters from the wsi box it still looses the plot frequently enough to be virtually uselsess.
Anybody got any ideas ?

I have this system (on a Maxi 999, mast 13.3m). The wireless wind sensor's signal gets through maybe 90% of the time. The technician at the local distributor said that it might help to turn the receiving 'WSI box' so that it faces the side of the boat (currently it's near the top of bulkhead at the front of the sail locker and hence faces aft). I haven't tried that yet.

I have sailed on a 35ft racing boat for 7 years which has used Tacktick instruments. Totally reliable and very flexible - a bombproof system. We have never had problems with units talking to each other or interference from other systems even, on the RtI start line. The only issue was when the wind array on the top of the mast was blown off during storm force winds, and there was no wire retaining it!

I also use Tacktick on my racing dinghy and have found their aftersales to be responsive and quick. I've no link with the company, just really impressed by their products. The only gripe I have is with the cost of their systems but then you get what you pay for.

We also have Tacktick - installed on the boat from new about three months ago. It has been very reliable for us and functionality is good. Interestingly, after we had ordered the Tacktick components our local marine electronic engineer recommended Nexus as the better option - but by that time it was too late to change the order.

Could it be an interference problem? I have spoken to Tacktick owners who have had similar problems to those that you describe and tracked it down to co-channel radio interference on the downlink frequency. Tackticks are able to operate on two different frequencies - one is reserved for use in the US. The people that I spoke to were able to solve their problems by switching their gear to the US channel - not legal in Europe, but the range is so short that the chances of getting caught are very small.

I posted the original thread on this issue some time ago.

I had been in contact with Nexus and various previous distributors without and successful outcome.

Allspars then acquired the dealership for UK and a VERY helpful guy called James solve my problem.

Simply moving the WSI box to a different location worked and, touch wood, all is working well now.

My WSI box is now located on a side shelf further from the mast head unit and directly behind the chart plotter and it works.

Simply move the WSI box around in different locations until you get the system working.

All seems to be working except that I find it hard to believe that the Irish Sea is at 23 C - it certainly doesn't feel that warm - I have tried the adjustments to this but it is still way out. However the important bits are good - depth, winds (true apparent etc), speed, battery . . .

It was a trying time initially but I am pleased with it now it is working.
