Hi everyone!

I am a new member, although I have been "lurking" for several months now.

I was most interested in the recent thread regarding rafting to buoys in Newtown Creek, and, since I am planning on taking a novice crew there over the bank holiday, could anyone advise me what time in the afternoon I really need to get there in order to be able to find a good anchoring spot (I draw less than 2m), or, shock horror, even a buoy? perhaps I need to have been resident from lunchtime!!

Also, I rather fancy a barbeque on the beach - am I right in thinking that the spit to the west of the entrance is not NT property, and is public?

Cheers everyone!

This time of year it is very busy in the Creek at w/es. If it is calm you might think of anchoring outside on the west side. The holding is good and you will have plenty of room. The problem inside is that even should you arrive in time to get a good spot as more people arrive it will fill up. Then when the tide changes lots of fenders are needed! BBQ's on west spit seem to be allowed as lots of people make them.

Others might know about the NT access but living opposite the creek I'll you my three ha'pence worth regarding your chances of getting a spot to anchor. If the weather is sttled, I'd be surprised if you could find anchoring room anytime after Friday lunchtime over the bank holiday. Last Saturday evening there were at least a dozen craft anchored outside of the creek and that was with an indifferent weather forecast.

The eastern side is a nature reserve and then military ranges, no landing is allowed. On the western side there is full public access and there are BBQs everywhere on a warm night.

If the weather is good the bank holiday weekend it will be packed - the odds of getting a buoy will not be good and people will be anchored everywhere.
