Anybody want a mooring buoy?

We were planning on coming out to play - but the forecast wasn't great and I didn't fancy the (forecasted) sitting in the rain bit .. typically the forecast changed as the day progressed ...

We were in Titchfield Haven on Saturday night for a friend's daughter's engagement party at the Sailing Club. Nearly went home on Sunday but opted for Newtown, arriving about 13:00. Slept off the worst effects of the party and woke about 16:00 just as the sun was coming out! Lovely evening, although still cold, and saw a pair of spoonbills feeding at low tide.
Paid for it all with cold rainy beat back to Portsmouth yesterday morning.

Bank Hol Sunday was a funny day.

We tried to get into Cowes Yacht haven and were told it was busy with a number of rallies and they couldn't offer an overnight berth. So we assumed that everywhere would be the same.

Next, we chanced a trip up the Beaulieu River to Bucklers Hard expecting it also to be busy but with the reserve plan to anchor in the river somewhere. However, when we arrived there it was empty. And the Harbourmaster said that they had had a very quiet weekend - surprising for Bieulieu on a Bank Holiday.

Seems like the weather prompted a lot of the casual leisure sailors to abandon their plans but maybe the rallies were booked in so felt obliged to turn up at their venues.

Cheers

We went up to Buckler's Hard on Saturday night. The HM told us they had a lot of bookings but they would find a spot for us none the less. When we got there, it was clear nearly all their bookings had either cancelled or simply not turned up. Worked well for us!

I was anchored near the entrance of Newtown Creek on Sunday.
It wasn't that quiet when I was there, but mostly sailing yachts, and a couple of other small Sealines.

It was busier sunday night, maybe 12 boats.

The weekend was ok, bit cold and drizzly but plenty of wind.
Top tip, if your cold buy a jumper, if its wet put a coat on.

Newtown Creek

We got there early afternoon on Friday and there was plenty of room. A few more arrived but it was cold , wet and windy and no better on Saturday morning when we left. However regardless of the weather it's a beautiful spot.

ha we thought of going in on Sunday but thought it would be a bun fight, so we ended up as the only boat having a free night in Alum Bay.

we spent Sunday afternoon in Alum Bay. We were trying to work out why all the people on the beach appeared to be from India. Must have been a pilgrimage going on.

I have noticed that too - no idea why it should attract so many Indians (or Asians).

We were in Lymington YH on Saturday night / arrived Newtown Creek at 10am Sunday morning. Even boats arriving at 4pm were finding buoys!

We left at 8:15am on Monday morning and had a very rapid (and rather wet) trip back to Portsmouth :-) We were amazed how many east bound yachts were under power / no sails.
