I'm sure i read some time ago that plans were afoot for a marina at Newport, anyone know any more?

In the mean time, is there anywhere to spend the night there where the boat can stay afloat?

Yep ,he has baffled me also.

To the best of my knowledge theres nowhere you can stay afloat in Newport. There may be the odd deep pool in the river but probably not practical .NUSC Yacht club have a pontoon in the river that dries out in soft mud over low tide. They pull the pontoon in for thje winter. Not sure exactly what date though.

Would be ok for a short visit over highwater for you?The couple of times we visited the club we have allways been made very welcome.

NUSC pontoon.

That was a long time ago and was a proposal to use one of the old redundant docks in the town. Not heard anything of it for some years now.

TBH why would anyone want to moor up in the middle of Newport anyway?

My old stomping ground, fond memories of the 80's /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif has it changed at all?

Newport is still a dump. Newport Uskmouth SC is still a good traditional sailing club with no pretentions.

The marina was for the canal at the upper end of the town, no use to us near the river mouth, I would not advise trying to find somewhere to stay afloat at low tide

I live in Newport so a Marina here would be great. I read about a year or two in Yachting Monthly that someone had put in a proposal for a Marina in one of the unused docks. Don't hold your breath though, its a similar situation in Barry and Porthcawl where proposal come and then nothing is heard. Perhaps with all this 'big project' cash that the government wants to spend they can even start the severn barrage so we can all have our non-tidal lake. There was a proposed marina to be tagged onto that too /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
