My mum lives very near Newport town quay, and I'm thinking of taking my boat (bilge keel, shallow draught) up there to visit her for her birthday. Does anyone have any tips/hints that aren't covered in the Almanac? I know the land side well- I grew up there- but I've not been that far up the Medina by boat. Thanks.

Greetings Phillipa & Kevin!. Stick to the marked channel on a well rising tide and you should be OK. There is a 'lump' of mud about 4 mtrs off the public pontoon about 1/4 way along, which I caught last year (2'4" draft) which left me hanging for 1/2 hour whilst some in the know passed me and got the best berths!. Try and visit the Small Boat Museum while you are there. (Sad to say Macwester search proved fruitless but Snapdragon 24 will do nicely!). Regards. Bob.

Thanks guys-info and pics very useful. Is there usually plenty of space for visitors- and if I talk very nicely to the HM will he come and take my lines (single handing!)

Don't use the public toilets there unless you are that way inclined! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
