Burrs in Newport is probably the finest eating place on the IOW. During Cowes week its full of crew who are not happy with the food in Cowes. If you are in Newport The bargemasters opposite the quay is at best eatable but how it is rated with the same food quality as Burrs is a bit of a mystery. As Burrs is always busy Lugleys a little further up the same road is much of the same quality. And the good old George is good value for money. Also not to be missed particularly in the week is of all places Yates wine lodge. they have two for the price of one offers on food, cheap beer, and its very nice at lunch times. There is also Woodys, up the stairs by what was a church, £1,20 a pint for premium lagers, good to have a couple before going on the £2,40 a pint stuff elsewhere. ( Be warned there is a considerable difference between the patrons of Burrs and Woodys, it may be a bit of a culture shock). Showers are free at Newport and theres no mafia water taxi to pay, the kids are sometimes a bit noisy when they are swimming, but are usually are good sorts. The railway inn just round the corner has lost a lot of its charm since it changed hands, a lot of its customers have decamped to the Worlds end about 50 yards away. As for the Medina Quay, you are customer number 02398701, and you will have 126grams of meat and 220 of chips, make of that what you will. It all looks clean though. Oh I almost forgot! Sunday lunch at the Barley Mow, 11 veggies plus two sorts of potatoes 4 or 5 good slices of beef or sheep, dont have the £5,50 one you wont eat it all, the £4,50 is plenty enough, some people even take the meals home, its a short walk from the quay and the pub has a lovely dog, a real charmer. ask directions all the locals know it. The harbourmaster always has his sunday lunch there. Think I have covered all the good places but there are sure to be more.
