Does anyone know whether the pontoons are still in situ at Newport and Uskmouth sailing club? It looks like there'll be enough wind and nice neap tides to get there from Portishead this weekend.

Does anyone know what the drying height of the NUSC pontoons above chart datum is? We'd be hoping to get there as early as possible so we can start fighting the tide back to Portishead: hence a tidal calculation is on the cards.

Any more information on NUSC would be useful (I've found the website!).

Cheers,
Zlod

If the main pontoon isnt in use they have a smaller one around the corner in St Julians Pill.I think it floats about HW +-2 .Dont go anyfurther into the pill past the pontoon as theres a low power cable /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

yes Graham. A member nicknamed Flash Phillips allegedly did go a bit further. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The pontoon in the pill will still be there - its never removed except for repair. Whether it will be unoccupied is a different matter but if you ring the club on 01633271447 there should be someone who can tell you.

There will also be a few moorings left floating in the river so pick one up if you need to

I am a member of NUSC, the river pontoon is available, I will make sure there is room for you.
Its a small tide this weekend depending on what you draw 1.5 hours before high tide will be your earlist time

We didn't make it. There was no way we were going to make it with the wind in that direction (pretty much a westerly). It took us the best part of an hour to tack far enough out to get round Denny Island. Those tides are pretty strong round Portishead Point! It got pretty wild out there later (but good fun)!

Thanks for making sure there was room for us europe172. We'll try to get to Newport when the wind is blowing in a better direction!

We met the Portishead Cruising Club race on the way back to Portishead. These are some photos of boats in the race:

Is the photo below of a Westerley? Which type? I just love that hanked-on headsail (I mean that).

I agree . A hanked on jib will pull you upwind far better than the average roller furler job. Im planning on fitting a moveable inner forestay on Banjo so hopefully get the best of both worlds.

Great Pictures.
