Having been an avid reader of PBO for many years and now a member of the forum, perhaps I would be allowed a short introduction. I have a story to tell of my choice of a cruising boat that was featured in Hiscock's book, Cruising Under Sail, which to my way of thinking was an ideal choice. I speak of "Restive", featured also in Yachting World in 1949.. My home is on Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia where we are in close proximity to the D'Entrecasteaux Channel, one of the finest waterways in the world. In two months time the Australian Wooden Boat Festival will be held in Hobart, but before that the Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race will have been completed. Life is full of nautical interest in this part of the world and I look forward to sharing ideas etc. about "Peter Robyn", a 'sister-ship-to Restive' and also picking your brains in an ongoing attempt to make improvements. Cheers, PeterR /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

hi there, and welcome. Your adventure sounds very exciting. How about a piccy for the midwinter blues up here in the northerm 'Emmy's Fear ?

Many thanks for your kind words of welcome! I feel as though I am amongst friends!. We live on the north end of the Island at Barnes Bay. Access to Bruny is by vehicular ferry (or water) carrying about 70 vehicles each crossing on a a schedule of 10 crossings each day. It takes 12-15 min. and then a drive of 14km to our home on Barnes Bay at Simmonds Bay. From our house I look down on our anchorage, which is in 3m water at the northern end of the bay. The rise and fall of the tide is little more than a metre (1.5m max). The Huon River is about 20nm south and the Derwent Estuary is 5nm north. It is estimated that in the Channel area, there are 93 good anchorages, so there is plenty of choice. We are looking forward to the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in February, but not before the completion of the Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race starting on Boxing Day. There are more boats in Hobart than any other place in the country per capita of population, so there is much of nautical interest here.
If I can see how to do it, I will attach some photos, but if there are none, please someone tell me how to do it. One shows Peter Robyn on her mooring from our house and one on the slip.
Christmas greetings at this significant time of the year. Regards, PeterR

PS It looks like I need help to attach photos!!!! Next time!
