Afternoon all,

Hope all is well.

I'm hoping that there's a few users on here from the Newcastle Area?

I'm based in Newcastle, 22 year old lad just returned from a holiday in Portugal and thoroughly enjoyed the speedboats.

I have started looking into courses that are available and pricing everything up.

If anyone is from round here Ide appreciate to hear from you as I'm full of questions.

Bump.

Hi Joe, welcome to the forums. I suspect it took a while for your post to be moderated and thus has slipped off the radar and hence no replies?

You should get good advice on most things here. I'm not local to you but if you end up with anything Fletcher, a friend and I run an annual rally down in South Devon for a few days early season. We've had participants from as far as Sheffield so you could set a new record! :D

I'm not sure what the North Sea is like for speedboats - suspect a bit lumpy much of the time and you might want something a bit bigger...? Many folk from up that way seem to head for Scottish Lochs or to the South Coast for their boating so a good trailer is a worthwhile investment. Some local rivers may have unrestricted areas for skiing, watersports etc and that may be worth exploring too, but you may need a safety certificate for many and a lot will have speed restrictions.

Good luck anyway - once bitten by the boating bug it can be quite intense! Hopefully someone local will be along with some local pointers...

Regards,

Rob

hi joe , we are in royal quays north shields, there is a no speed limit just the other side of the tyne bridge you can launch from powerhouse marines slip at derwenthaugh for a small fee,you can do the full range of rya courses from the school at royal quays information on the notice board just inside the building.we have been here over 10 years so if i can help drop me a line. paul

we water ski'd for years on the tyne & wear. Two places available on the tyne derwenthaugh & newburn/Ryton we also ski'd on the wear at south hylton however they are all tidal we also used to travel to windermere & loch Lomond for long weekends & holidays

longscar powerboating are based in Hartlepool & offer a full range of training courses out of Hartlepool marina, we did some of our training with them might be worth comparing them with whats on offer on the tyne I don't remember why we went there but I'd guess it was cheaper!

we also ski'd in the bay at shields but that got stopped following an accident but I'm not sure if that has been relaxed now worth checking out though. we also used to ski out at sea too in good weather I remember skiing from shields to sunderland none stop behind a 15' dateline with an 85hp Yamaha

I can also remember a bumpy ride back from newbiggin to shields in a 14' sims superV with a Johnson 70 we had furel cans all over the deck just to do the trip

beadnel bay is also worth a trip in good weather as the bay is fairly sheltered & a nice spot to explore

so although the north sea is unpredictable there are several options for the north east boater & we were never deterred from finding a good spot to boat

I guess some of our more adventurous trips would be frowned upon today but we survived

you may be better looking at a rib as they do everything a hard hulled speedboat will do but have the added safety of being unsinkable (almost) check out rib.net

we did eventually move up to Scotland 3 years ago to be closer to our cruiser that we have kept in the firth of clyde for several years just because the cruiseing is better

hope this helps

The Sea Cadets are always looking for adult leaders. They will train you to handle all types of sailing and powerboats and then help you qualify right up to instructor level so you can teach the kids.
I know there are units in Jarrow, Wallsend, South Shields and Newcastle.
