Hello to all out there, I have just purchased a Sunseeker portofino 31, twin aqad41a's pushing 290dp legs.
My question is, there is a rattle from the top of both legs when in neutral, unsure if it happens when in gear! Does anyone have any ideas as th what the rattle could be?

Cheers scottie, I'll take a look at the weekend. More of a rattle than a knocking though. I remember when the uj went bad on my Mexico it was quite a bad knock

Hi Neil,

Good to meet you the other day. Hope you got most of the work sorted?
I would suggest if it's still out the water to pop off the bellows and have a look at the U/J and make sure there is no water in there. run the eng in neutral and see if you can identify exactly where noise is coming from. It could be coming from the input shaft bearings or vertical shaft bearings/ Needle bearings? The fact it maybe just when in neutral identifies it's play of some kind whilst not under load.
I believe the drives were only fitted back on last week.

Hi simon (targa 30?) good to meet you too, going to try taking the legs off this weekend if I get time. Fixed the o'ring oil leak but the water cooling housing has had a previous repair which failed Sunday afternoon!! Back in on one engine,
 
cheers scottie, not sure its the UJ but will check, its a rattle from the mid section of the leg and i recall when the UJ went bad on my mexico it was a loud knocking
 
good to meet you too simon, im hoping for an easy fix on the legs, maybe bearings around the cone clutch?? the leaking oil cooler saga continues!!
 
Hi rlw, always wanted one of these from when they where launched! made the jump from a sealine 240 senator to this! a 1987 boat so one of the first just trying to work through a couple of issues with the green monsters mounted in the rear (or should i be using the technical term "stern) and then spend some time getting used to twin engines, longer length and wider beam :)
 
I'm sure you will sort that oil issue out this weekend. Remember no bilge action this time!! Lol
It could be somthing like that. I'm not that familiar with the leg though.
We will be there sun mid afternoon. Might see u there if you haven't launched it.

good to see you sunday afternoon simon, replacement oil cooler no good, new one on order ready for fitting this friday. fingers crossed all will be good and i might get a weekend on the water
 
Oh dear. Well at least you know with a new one you will have no issues and it's plain sailing. Shame these parts are so expensive!!
£90 for a bush that we were talking about on Sunday. Crazy!!

Let us know how you get on and how the 3rd Maiden voyage goes :)
