Just bought myself a Bayliner Bowrider, first boat for me and I am now looking for any relative advice to someone who is new to this. Things like launching tips, maps perhaps, anchoring, places to park up, places of interest along the solent, absolutely anything that will help!

Links to sites may also be helpful, I'd like to learn as much as poss so i can relax and enjoy.

Boat will be mainly used in the solent, and maybe the odd trip to the IOW.

Also need to find out what the buoys mean etc..

Best advice is go and do a powerboat level 2 course, you could do this on your own boat, it will give you all the basics at once so you can then go and enjoy your boat.

Agree with Powerskip here. Don't use it till you know what you're doing. There are many hazards in the Solent, some visible, some not.
Southampton is a busy port and you need to know about such things as the moving exclusion zones.
There are a few instructors around here that could maybe organise a course for you.

You (and your passengers) will feel a lot more relaxed understanding what is going on around you. Good luck

Believe it or not we were all "newbies" once so welcome to you. If you make it up to Bucklers Hard come in and introduce yourself and I'll try to sort you out some charts (what you call maps) etc. at a discount. Above all get out there and enjoy yourself.

Regards Bob.
