Newbie with some GRP repair questions

Afternoon everybody, instead of browsing I thought that I should ask for your collective opinions on GRP and Gelcoat. My hull has a few deep gouges and a small hole on the waterline which I am thinking of sanding down then applying GRP to make a strong repair. My question is, after the repair with GRP has gone off, should I apply Gelcoat filler or use Gelcoat that is applied like paint or both?

If you are concerned about a colour match then would suggest using Gelcoat which can be colour matched more easily (IMO) than Gelcoat filler. A simple repair can be done with Gelcoat filler and it seems to last well, plastic padding was the one I had experience of but couldn't tame the colour. I always use Gelcoat now.
