Hi all,
is there anyone out there in or close to Portsmouth harbour that is inexperienced like me, ( have done level 2) but still a little nervous about expanding horizons further than harbour entrance, managed Cowes though! that would be interested in keeping company to offer mutual moral support?
I have a 27' twin engine Chriscraft, twin 5.0 v8's yes it is thirsty but I don't go mad, yet.......
I'm quite good at fixing all the things that keep going wrong on it........
Don't have pots of money but got a Barclaycard......
& a cynical 10 year old that is too attached to his computer ha ha:redface-new::D

Hopefully you will get a taker soon - if you haven't got a pm or to already. You will find quite a few good resources on the net helpful such as visitmyharbour and also the channel pilot book. I was more fortunate than you as my sons are older and wanted to interract with the boat, so we all helped one another - usually by taking the p155 out of each others mistakes - but I understand your request. You will also find that just speaking to other bertholders will help. We moved to a new area, read the books etc and thought we were set for our first trip. We told a neighbour in the marina what we were doing and he told us to tie up to the fisherman's quay, give the marinero 5 euros and he'll look after her for us - none of that on the net or in any books...

Another one here - based at Swanwick but no prob to get to Gosport - I'm better mid week - used to a heavy 36 foot twin engine job with thruster and a much smaller single engine job, also with thruster (25foot). Also very familiar with the harbour entrance and that part of the Solent - send PM if interested. Looking again at your post - perhaps good to be clearer if you are looking for another newbie to sail in company or someone more experienced to accompany you on your boat for a couple of trips till you get more used to it

I'm useless to you as I am based on the Severn however you will find that if you can handle one of those big bend in the middle things a boat will be no problem.

As for the people you meet, well, imagine a day at work. 50% duck heads. But within the other 50% you will make some lifelong friends.

Stick with it, get your boy to do the cooking to keep him quiet, and keep saving for the petrol.

Good luck.

Nice boat :) Should get loads of replies, I'd offer if I had more time at the moment. I trust you have some kind of Nav system and depth sounder? If so and you know how to use it you shouldn't have too much trouble. But get a paper chart of the solent/IOW as well as a tide book. Its quite good fun to initially learn about all the solent has to offer. (I'm still learning!)

There's a very friendly Solent based motorboat club that you might want to look at.....

www.pathfinderpowerboat.com

Just a group of boaters that like to have fun - all very social and very informal. No club house or anything so just £40 a year to belong. A full calendar of events from April to October that you can pick and choose from.

There are a few members berthed in Gosport, 5 or 6 in Port Solent, several in the Southampton area and spread around various Solent marinas.

Get in touch via the website or PM me if you like.
