Hi, I need to replace the props that are currently on my Volvo 250 legs. I know NOTHING at all about props and therefore looking for advice as to what I should replace them with. Any info greatfully received and please remember I know nothing to begin with!

Try this: http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/default.aspx

assuming the correct ones were fitted and nothings changed. ID the props you have and order the same.

For props, I have always had great service and advice from Stell Developments in Merton (London). You will find them by googling. I have had 3 props repaired by them, but they also supply new and recon in alu, bronze or steel.

Great value and service.

Prepare to part with large amounts of cash!

I've just replaced mine on 290 drives. I have had a corrosion problem that I am hoping is fixed but not sure so I opted for after market props at half the price of Volvo's. They are not bad but not quite as good as the original ones - finish not quite as good and I reckon I have lost at least a knot off my top speed. If my corrosion problem is solved I'll try to get 2 years out of these and then go back to volvos.

Depending what props you have you can get genuine refurbished sets for not too much money. We fell lucky and got a genuine set of refurbished Volvo A4's for £100.

Can you get yours refurbed. We had one set of ours done even when three of the blades had a third off the end of each (duo props dont mix well with trees)

Props vp 250 drive

If you have 250 drives then you may be restricted in what props are still available

Sugest you 1st check which props are currently fitted it may prove dificult but if original volvo props then you should find a part number six figures beginning with an 8 most likely or the size stamped on the end of the props under the cone nut etc
If no luck then you will have to go by the engines you have fitted along with reduction ratios ie 250 a thru d

Speak to a penta dealer <older the better>

Just as a curved ball watch out for river based boats having oversized props for low speed use

I think that you may be able to fit longer hub props by chaning the exhaust ports and new style hub nuts

it is also possible that it is stamped on the prop hub,you will need to scrape off loads of old paint to find it

This is from a VP original prop list.

Thanks all. As I said I am going to get them off and see exactly what they are - give them a bl**dy good scrub etc this weekend and see what ID marks they have on them and see exactly how bad they are.....and take it from there.... I will certainly call Steel Devel. I have found their website http://www.steeldevelopments.co.uk/ for anyone else who may want it - good old Google!!
