Hi all...

I have just purchased a new to me Yacht :) Yay

Anyways, I am planning on living aboard somewhere in the Poole area (currently on a mooring in Holes Bay). However, she needs some work. Not too much inside (as it's only me), but she needs her bum cleaned and topsides are flakey. I can also say I'm bound to find more jobs in the process.....

I am new to the area, and wouldn't mind some local info from fellow liveaboards.

1) A boat yard near-by where I can get her out of the water and do the work I need to.... whilst living there.... if possible.

2) Once clean, the best place to liveaboard in the area (maybe for a year...). I do need to be able to get to my car for work. Electric and water would be a bonus..... especially at first :)

Thats enough for the mo :)

Welcome aboard
Sorry no knowledge of the area but consider this a "bump" back up the listings I am sure someone will be along soon telling you how to do it.
You may also want to post on the Liveaboard site.

Hi and welcome.

We are in the Med now and have been for many years. However we spent a lot of years in Poole with two previous boats prior to that.

Looks to me like you initially need the services of one of Poole's marinas for a while. If you need a lift-out there isn't much more choice!

Chas

Cobbs Quay has quite a few liveaboards. I don't think they are 'official', as long as you are discreet I doubt there will be a problem. There is water, power and lift out and parking so should cover all your needs. Also good showers.

Davis's in Cobbs Quay is your best bet. Cheaper than the main marina and I know that people have lived aboard there while working on their boats.

As already suggested Ridge Wharf is an alternative - even cheaper by Poole standards, but is very remote and up to an hour's drive back to Poole. Can be restrictive if you have deep draft. Nice and peaceful, though. I lived on my boat on a river mooring when I first moved to the area 35 years ago. Would be my choice if travel was not an issue.

Agree with Tranona

When we had our boat in the UK we were on a swinging mooring in Holes bay but used Davis's at the head of Holes Bay for haul out and repairs. It was 6 years ago but we were very happy with them.
PS Welcome to the forum.

Steve

Thanks Guys

All great info, have sent emails to both to see what they can do for me :)

Would like to see if there are forum members currently living there at the mo.

Thanks again for the great info and welcomes.

Tooodles :)

Ps. I tried the quick reply not sure if it worked...... sorry if this is repeated :)

Tell us about your new yacht, make, draught, that sort of thing :)

Padlocks at dawn :)

All in good time :) She is currently not in a secure state, so raising her profile on here won't help. She has been robbed of parts big style already.

When she has new locks and me living there... It'll be a different story!

(not to mention a nasty shock for thieves!!!)

I am part of a group that does security patrols at night in Holes Bay a few times a week. If you PM me the details, I will keep a special eye out (honetstly not a crook in disguise) :)

There has been abit of a problem with outboards going missing there, make sure it is secure or removed if you have one.

From mine they have had the out-board, helm gear and the winches...

Going to Davis's... they replied first with constructive information.... Reasonable fee's also :)

I'm down in the next day or 2.... Can't wait :)

Why do these posts take so long to appear? Conversations must go on for weeks lol....

'Cos you are new. Once youy are established it is instant as you will see from the realtime banter that goes on at times.

You will be fine at Davis's. Been a customer there for over 30 years.
