Got three people going out to the carrabean for about a week just after chrismass for holidays. Looking for a mix of local culture and beach/sports (2 teenage girls). Any suggestions for best places to head for and cheapest flights (including B&B deals but not full packages)

All flights to the Caribbean are very expensive over Christmas and New Year - if they can wait until after New Year before flying, they will get a much better deal.

I might perhaps be a wee bit biased, but Barbados has a lot going for it, with accomodation to suit all pockets from simple self catering (around US$ 75 per night for a room) up to funny money for places like Sandy Lane.
And there are a wide choice of direct flights to Barbados - just 8 hours from London. Similarly Antigua, which has lots of nice beaches, but is rather limited in everything else.

Perhaps have a perusal of one of the Lonely Planet or Rough Guides or similar to get an overall perspective first?

I love Grenada and beside the Lagoon there are a couple of really nice and not 'holiday tourist' hotels... and a couple in the town. Real nice place.. You fly to Tobago via Caledonian charter then get the little inter-island flight to Grenada.. There are some real tourist hotels not too far from the airport with beach bars, water sports including scuba learn to dive etc.. Cheap mini mokes to hire are lots of fun and a great way to see the island.
