What do you think of the prices being asked this year???
The dollar has collapsed but appears no reductions on J Boats, Catalinas or Island Packets ..... Beneteaus seem to have gone up remarkably, I'm sure the Ben 57 was nearer £400 thou than the £500 they're asking now, perhaps they're 'leaving room' for the new 'competitively priced' range, so good I've forgotten the name already.
Is my memory playing me false or what??

Modern-day marketing strategy prices products on what the customer is prepared to pay in their local market...it's nothing to do with exchange rates, profit margins, etc, though these may be used as excuses to put prices up (though rarely down??!!)...understand what's going on and make sure the supplier knows you know. You might get lucky!

According to Yachting World this new range will make Bavaria's look expensive. Think it's called the Cyclade range.

In the free and fair widget market the long term price is around the marginal cost of production, and should be where supply and demand meet.

Not so in small differentiated markets like (larger) boats where prices are set at a level that people are willing to pay, which may be totally unrelated to the actual cost of production. Many companies will trade on snob/brand value too -- Compare the price of a Moody to the equivalent Ocean yachts -- Ocean is just as well built , more head room, but a lot cheaper mainly due, as far as I am concerned to Moody's reputation and Ocean's relative newness to the market.

Saw their 56 footer at the boat show and its beautiful and runs out at £355k ish. the 47 footer was £213k and I think you'd be hard pressed to find similar quality anywhere near that price.

Not looking or haggling for 57 footer ..... just an example .... from memory 473 also gone up so I presume the whole range has also moved up. I suppose this will also harden second hand prices ....
In my industry, food, exchange rate and cost of raw materials, crops, are central to negotiations.
