New wreck for Lyme Bay

Been following this - looks like the tug will be saved which is good news as there was a high risk of fuel spill.

Seems an artificial reef was destined to be - even if it's not quite the Arc Royal....

The wording in the early reports made me laugh - saying how the tug had stopped, but the towed vessel kept going and ran into the stern of the tug... Err, is it just me or isn't that what they'd expect to happen and perhaps they needed to consider anchoring the tow too? At least there were no lives lost and the loss was just scrap.

Nice depth. Any idea what the viz is likely to be?

It's away from any rivers in the corner of the bay, depending on exact position could be either a muddy or sandy bottom. Vis around there is rarely brilliant nor hand in front of face. I'll let you know once we dive it!

We watched her actually go down.
It was lunch time on 14th Jan
I have an AIS feed into my PC and from the positions of the other vessels around, my estimate of her position is 50°28.264'N, 3°24.724'W
Thats 2.6 miles (081 degrees T) from Hopes Nose

We watched her all morning gradually listing until she finally went down - the bow was the last to go under.

Local news this evening is that they need to establish if the wreck will affect the deep water anchorages round here. This area is a safe haven for ships to shelter - especially during west or south west storms.
The position I've marked is less than half a mile from the marked deep water anchorage. Water depth of about 26m

Mike, any idea how big the ship is/was?

Shame I didn't take any pics until just before she went down.
But Rodney's comment about 80m seems about right.

EDIT:

I did take some pics just before she sank though.
Here's one
You can see that she is substantial - the bulge on the left is her bow breaker.
The position I posted above was estimated from the AIS on the vessels around her - there were several and I think my position is reasonably good.
