I have just finished fitting new windows to my boat and thought you may like to see them. The original windows were just plain acrylic screwed to the coach roof and bedded on sealant. The new windows are just a flat stainless frame on top of acrylic but through bolted. I used a mastic tape sealant and found it excellent to use and (so far) seems to have made an excellent seal. I used one piece around the outside and one over all the bolt holes for the bolts to push through. The nuts on the inside will be covered by teak trim which will then hold the curtain tracks. Where the coach roof was exposed behind the windows I blacked it in with a matt black paint and you can just see these if you look carefully at the picture. A smoked acrylic would probably have been better for hiding these but I like the light given by having clear windows. In total it cost about £1k but for 4 large windows I thought that to be OK

They are very nice with the stainless frame and far better looking than plain arcylic. What brand of mastic tape did you use?

I used:

Butyl Mastic Roll Sealant 3mm x 9mm x 15.00mtr from Tinman Roofing Sheet on ebay. Needed 1.5 rolls. It's light grey which seems suit quite well. It's also nice to use because it sticks quite well and of course doesn't squeeze out when you bolt down.

I've just been told by Eagle Boat Windows that the aluminium frames I sent them are beyond repair.

They suggested that an alternative to newly fabricated, (and expensive) frames was what you have done: acrylic with a stainless steel "bezel" or "ring" over it.

I can source the acrylic but where did you get the stainless fabricated? I would be grateful for any advice on this.

I had mine made by Dicky B at Mountbatten in Plymouth. They were laser cut by a sub contractor and then drilled, countersunk and polished by Dicky B. I guess some local searching will find suitable alternatives. I was lucky enough to have a pattern to work from and it would be well worth making an exact pattern for the bezel from cheap ply. PM me for more detail if you wish.
