Unfortunately the motor in our SL Horizon has died and it doesn’t quite seem worth repairing it as the unit is rather old.

Looking at the windlasses that would fit, mounted on a shelf in the anchor locker, I am stuck with a compact horizontal windlass (Lofrans Cayman is too tall), and I wonder if anyone has any thoughts, additions or recommendations from my list? This is for 35’ yacht with 65m of 8mm chain and a 15kg Spade anchor.

A) Lewmar Pro 1000
B) Quick Genius
C) Lofrans Lion 1000
D) Lewmar HX1

Many thanks

If you want to keep the existing unit, try taking the motor to an automotive electrical specialist for rebuild. These specialists are very skilled and their service is remarkably cheap.

This outfit refurbished mine for less than £60. You can post yours to them and they'll post it back. They do canal boat stuff as well as automotive so they are used to marine kit.

We had the motor for our Quick windlass “refurbished” by an apparently reputable company - but it was much less powerful and soon failed entirely. However, we were able to buy a brine new motor relatively cheaply and slot this in which has worked perfectly.
Did this rather than replace the windlass as current one no longer made and others had different deck footprint which would have made changes to decks necessary. The Quick motors seemed to be a common part which fitted many different models.
Worth trying to find precise SL motor part number?
