Word is reaching me that Matt Carter's successor as Waterway Manager, apparently with immediate effect, is to be Andrew Graham, currently the manager for the volunteer program. It would appear that staff were informed late on Thursday although yesterdays (Friday) latest EA Newsletter, although carrying a farewell message from Matt, makes no mention of the appointment and I have yet to receive any formal notification through TNUF which I would expect in due course.

aaaaarrrrgggghhhhhh...............

(Well unfair perhaps, give the man a chance).

Methinks it's a pig of a job with pressure from all sides and a disjointed boating community.

We haven't had a real 'harbour master' since John Redmond. He started as a summer assistant and worked his way up through the ranks. Even now he is still involved both as Master of Watermans Hall and Chairman of one of the fast ferry companies on the Tideway.

A good bloke, very approachable. Times are changing, better electronic communications - which means a lot of *** to deal with.

Official notification just received:

Dear TNUF
As you know Matt Carter has recently moved to a new role with Simon Hughes in the London Environment Team. Matt has made a huge contribution to Waterways and I have thoroughly appreciated his commitment in the time we have worked together.
I am pleased to announce that after competitive interviews I have been able to offer the Waterways Manager’s role to Andrew Graham.
Since joining the NRA in 1992, Andrew has worked in various Waterways roles on all parts of the Thames as well as at Head Office. I am sure that many of you already know him well. His most recent role has been as Operations Manager with responsibility for the volunteers project. I am very much looking forward to working more closely with Andrew and I know you will join me in wishing both Matt and Andrew well in their new roles.

West Thames Area Manager

Do we care? He wont have the authority to do anything and even if he did probably wouldn't have the balls to do it.

Changing deck chairs..

Actually, I agree.

Whoever takes on the job is literally a manager, contrained with tiny budgets and plenty of issues from all directions.

It probably wouldn't matter who did the job, I doubt there would be any difference either way. Nobody paid to do this would risk their job by standing up and shouting out the facts would they?
