Hello Gang,

New to me WAFI has an inop water maker and I must add this to the refit.

Given most largish MOBO's have such a device, which unit in the 60l/hr class is likely to be VERY reliable? Cost is always a factor but the main point is reliable...

I intend to visit many out of the way places...

what's wrong with the one you've got now installed?
Generally unless maintained carefully, these things are often problematic.
Considering the pump could well be 1K (and a new system 3K+), check if it's something that can be fixed. What brand/model is the current one?

cheers

Agree with you, vas. It may simply be that the unit has been decommissioned by the previous owner. One of my previous boats had a watermaker fitted and I had it decommissioned because I couldn't use it enough to keep it in commission. Even if the unit is in commission but not operating, its got to be worth checking whether it can be reconditioned before chucking it away

Hello Gents,

The unit is from the dark ages and parts are a problem; additionally, the capacity is 25L/hr...

I wish 50-60 or so.

Monique, you're not a avid typist, or simply too Spartan...

learning to suck eggs et al aside, systems are fairly simple:
prefilters
pressure pump
filters
RO membrane in it's own special pressurised tube

varying degree of electronics/sensors etc.

spares? what spares?
if you mean the pump is buggered, fair enough (although they are repairable)
if the electronics are rusted/malfunctioning ok, got a point
pressure vessel is a plain cylinder close on both sides.

Would be interested to know what's wrong with it.

25-30l/h is what mine does (well once I re-commission it again...) which means a 600mm long tube, right?
Fairly often pumps have greater output so a second similar sized vessel can be used to double output.

RO membranes for this size are just under 200euro from the main dealer in the NL (got details somewhere)

Hi Vas, LOVE your project. Following it at each update.

However, if you can find such a system for 3K... I'll kiss your backside.... :)

no need :p

check with Cardo he installed a reasonably priced one (iirc) before he started his med tour last year.
Someone on an older watermaker thread mentioned a co in the UK that does refurb work and sells recon units.

BTW, a few pics of the system and faults would be nice.

ah, and if you decide to chuck in away, I may be interested in buying the pressure vessel and membrane off you to up the output on mine ;)

cheers
