New walk-ashore at Lymington

On a sunny Saturday in summer get in early. Buy a bag of chips and then sit in the car park as the entertainment unfolds in front of you only to be disappointed by the sound of a bow thruster.
I expect the HM launch will be busy pushing boats into berths.

The current there is certainly strong enough to make life interesting

Definitely, they took the fun out of Yarmouth when the pontoons went in, nice to see a sense of humour at work in Lymington.

I have had plenty of 'fun' fending off boats who's helm hadn't allowed allow for the cross tide when on the far end of the visitor's finger berths at Yarmouth...
My first time on that pontoon was with a boat whose throttle cable had snapped, so 15yo son downstairs being throttle man. It must be admitted that we arrived reasonably firmly. Moody's fuel pontoon is another victory for packaging over physics.

'Ang on a minute. The price for a 37ft boat is about 4 pints of Guinness. I've been going there for 40 years and don't believe it ever cost much less than that.
Excuse rounding but a 37' Boat on a weekend is £40 / night, that makes Guinness £10 per pint???? Think I will give the Solent a miss and stay where I can afford to Berth and then go and have a pint.

On the plus side you can book in advance so I can set off from Portland with confidence. I used to do Sunday nights only and then not in the height of summer so I had a good chance of getting on to the Town Quay. Its a long way to go and have to turn round because if its full there Yarmouth usually is.

The down side, apart from cost, is those finger berths look quite tricky for a single hander.

I just had a quick look, seems that for our boat Berthon would be £6 more than the town quay, that's an easy choice.

The thing that frustrates me about Lymington, is that row of residents bouys in Pylewell Lake, last summer, half of them never had a boat on, yet when I asked the HM if one or two could be used for visitors, they say no. I'd like that, pick up a bouy, jump in the dinghy and head into town.

i used to quite like a trip to Lymington Town Quay.
Those berths will have been a sizeable investment.
However those prices will filter out any boat where there is only one person paying. i.e. families, couples, solo sailors.
Where the costs are shared amongst the crew it’s ok. The place is going to loose something for everyone and only serve a niche.
A short stay for us would be £18 :-(
I don’t think the overnight fees are too bad given the location but I agree the short stay is too much. All the marina chains seem to have put their shirt stay prices up too. Short stay prices are getting silly.

I wonder whether the long pontoon in the foreground is visitor or residents? Also where the fishing boats have gone?
