New video today - Crossing from Dover to Shotley

let me know when you're going to make it up to Grimsby we have a nice cheap bar and fuel :) I'll buy drinks if you'll answer some questions about fleetwood for me :)

I took a boat to Fleetwood Haven recently. What is it you need to know?

just want to know what its like to be based out of there, whats the marina/facilities like security etc is it a pain in the ass to get in an out of, if its locked what are the lock conditions are there any hidden conditions like at grimsby if the tide is more than 6.7m then they only open for 1 hour either side of HW which isn't published anywhere and all our tides are +7m near enough so basically access is severely restricted. Whats the waters like around it, what are the cruising grounds? hows the trip to manx etc?

If either of you could help, I'd be grateful.
Many Many years ago, probably 50.
My parents took me on a boat trip, which I believe went from, either Fleetwood.
I would have been about 6.
The boat took us to a magical place for a young boy. There were pil boxes on the waters edge where the boat pulled in and I remember sandbags that had turned to solid stone.
I say it went from Fleetwood, but it could have been Blackpool or even Morecambe. Any ideas .
Best regards .
Mark

I can't tell you too much; I was just delivering a boat there and didn't hang around once we'd tied-up.

Seemed a typical down-at-heel new marina built in the remains of an old fishing dock. ABP are pumping money in to it though so it'll look better as time progresses. Entry is simple - there's a busy shipping channel leading up to Heysham so a keen look-out is essential. Leading off that is a buoyed/lit channel up the river Wyre with Fleetwood the first land you'll reach. No locks but a tidal barrier that opens/closes 90mins either side of HW (longer on big springs). There are plenty of moorings that can be picked-up if you arrived late or early and you should stay afloat. All the staff I spoke to were very helpful and security seemed fine.

Cruising grounds should be wonderful - you've got the IoM, Wales, Morecambe Bay, Menai Straits, NI and Scotland all within a day's sail.
