It will only work when the engine's at temperature. Probably a good system if you only need or want heat whilst running the engine. Not much use for cold evenings in the marina.

Thanks Volvopaul for the reply i thought i wud post this to hopefully gain somemore of your knowledge. This unit is @300 sterling, that is good i think i have priced webasto gas @550 sterling and ebershmacer @1200 sterling. Do u think this trype of heating is suitable for use when crusing only (not necessary to have on and off throught the night ??)

These heaters work really well when going along - three speed settings (my father's boat has two of the 10kw one's in his boat for underway heating)- in fact I'm fitting one of the 5kw versions to my own boat this winter for heating in the cockpit canopy when underway and I have an eber. as well for at anchor heat. Main points that I have found it that you need to feed them with fresh outside air (it can smell stale otherwise- you may need extra fittings for this) and it can be useful to fit a hot water shut off valve so that you can blow cold air only to. Also you may be able to buy these cheaper elsewhere- ASAP supplies do the same heater badged hotpot I believe.

I have something similar on Rafiki, plumbed into the calorifier, so that heat can be maintained overnight if plugged into shorepower. However, in practice it is about as useful as an ashtray on a jet ski. The fanblower noise drowns all other sound, so we don't use it at all.

When we are motoring we are in the cockpit not the saloon, and when stationary, and hooked up, we have a much more effective fan heater.

Dont you think that is over engineering ?

do you have room for this and just connect it to the califier pipes with a rad valve on it.
