I am going to get a new tillerpilot and have decided on the Simrad TP22. Does anyone have any good tips as to where the best discounts are to be found? Will it be worth going to LBS? I wouldn't go normally though I live in London.
Thank you
Graham

A quick check of my usual suspects finds Seamark Nunn cheapest for standard online retail, as is often the case. I've bought a moderate amount of stuff from them in the past with no problems.

On more than one occasion I've purchased a new model of something at LBS and found a couple of months later that it would have been possible to

purchase the same items from the internet at a lower price.

My advice whatever tiller pilot you buy, have a canvas cover made for it to keep excess water from the casing. It's not too challenging to make one

yourself even sewing by hand if needs must and a plastic window to see and press controls will keep it dry.

Take it home after every trip and put it in a warm dry place to help keep the motherboard dry.

Good luck,
S.

Sorry, but you need to expand your list of usual suspects! Possibly the cheapest current standard online retail offer on the TP22 is £399 at JG Tech - http://www.jgtech.com/shop14.htm

And Yachtbits have it at 7p more!

Or in the opposite kinds of climate, make a reflective cover from windscreen sunshield. The black plastic case of tillerpilots becomes incredibly hot in strong sunshine and the silver ones are not a lot better.

Incidentally, I think your choice is excellent, based on my experience. I have a TP 30 dating from many years ago and a secondhand TP 32 as a spare. Both perform well and the original has seen a great deal of reliable service.

Just following a comment in this thread.
I have a TP10 and I am convinced being black helps it to overheat on a summers long motoring run.
I cover mine when it's hot with a towel

Don't bother with the boat show. Went there last year with the intention of buying TP10. Found one SINGLE shop selling them and managed to haggle £5 discount off the cheapest I could find online.

Also tried Jimmy Green to buy some bits and bobs, but the assistant was very rushed and rudely reluctant to discuss anything and just wanted to take my money and move onto another customer.

Complete waste of time. Won't be going again.
