New to speed boating

I live in Coventry in the midlands and I'm thinking about buying a speed boat but where can I actually take it apart from Kingsbury water park which want nearly £500 for the year plus insurance. I would like to take it somewhere for free, maybe a lake, river, or sea, but there appears to be speed limits and charges for the slip way etc? Does anybody know anywhere ?

You can check this SITE out. There are a few places you can launch for free, but there will always be speed restrictions in and around harbours, rivers etc.

Welcome to the 21 Century.

Plymouth is about the only place I know, with sheltered water and close access to no speed limits. Might even find free slipways.

Hi, forget lakes, they will have speed limits on them. To launch at most places around the coast you will need at least 3rd party insurance for 1million (advisable anyway). Do you have any experience in driving boats etc....... thats advisable to......safety equipment....?
And don't buy the first cheap boat you see on ebay !

Other than Plymouth you could try the North West, or move from Coventry to somewhere nearer the sea!

When you do get your boat, still insure it and yourselves, as it could be very expensive if you bumped into Gludy's new yacht.

New to SPEED boating sounds a bit horific anyway. Maybe SLOW boating would be better for a while.

what about that powerboat club at ingoldmells on the east coast. well set up club and slipway. last time i went the launch fee was 20 pounds tho..

If you trek up to Barrow in Furness there's a free slip on the Walney Channel and it seems there isn't a speed limit ? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
