I'm new to motor boating having sold a yacht last year. I am currently looking at a twin engined Rodman 800 with a small flybridge. I expect to use it for fishing and a bit of weekend cruising. I am based on the south cost of Ireland and would welcome any advice on this type of boat

We just looked at a used Rodman fly - It was an 870 2003 model at £75000. It was a twin but it was under spec'd and by the time we had added the electrics, and heating it would have broken the bank for us.
It seemed to have been well used and the owner was going for a bigger boat.
Saw an Antares 9 series for £25000 less and in better condition considering it was a 2000 model but with a single engine. Looked a nice boat but just a tad big for what we are wanting to start of with although the wife loved the space!

Personnaly if looking at these type of boats I would save cash, get a large single engine, a bow thruster and an auxiliary!

No need for twin installation in the majority of these boats. Single saves purchase costs, servicing costs and a little Fuel. A good auxiliary and a tender reduces the 'risk' of single engine and a bowthruster sorts out monouvering as with a high windage factor they can be difficult on a single drive.

By going single you can either get a newer boat or a bigger one. Most Scandanavians like Aquador and Finnmaster only do single + bowthruster instalation for this reason.

Cheers
