I have been knee deep in epoxy going over the tatty gelshield for a few weeks and am now looking at antifouling, I think I will just slap some self polishing on but am trying to get a quote for this stuff out of curiosity finsulate.com. It looks like a fibre impregnated vinyl wrap that it meant to stop spongebob and friends attaching. Not sure it will work with weed but for me that's mostly waterline and I will put a hard antifoul bootstrap on. It is probably insanely expensive but I am curious about less damaging options (and ones I don't have to haul out and redo every 1-2 years..

Interesting - obviously their site says it works, but it's picked up some awards too. Not a DIY job though,to give the 5 year warranty.

If I had a bare hull, one that had been stripped, new yacht straight from the builder - I would not hesitate - Coppercoat.

I'm discouraged as the cost of soda blasting is not to be ignored (and I don't mind anti-fouling).

Coppercoat seems like a good option, but it's basically epoxy, so is it the wrong time of year to be doing it outdoors?

Yes - in the UK - but not because it’s epoxy, but because it’s water-based.

We’ll be slapping Jotun (amine epoxy) on until it’s 5 degrees. Keep it dry for 12 hours and you’re alright.

I think copper coat is something like dry for 4 days! ?

No idea of cost, or if it is doable outside of NL but will report back. I was considering coppercoat but as you say, it's too late in the year and as I 'spend a lot of time on the boat' plus didn't give her months of drying time before going over the very messy gelshield after blasting it is probably not the best idea given all I hear about it being very sensitive to appliation. Will have 4 coats of hempel high protect on

I think you can Coppercoat over that epoxy - check with them. If you have a well prepared hull the extra cost of materials for Coppercoat is not huge, but you will have to wait until next spring if doing outdoors. Not difficult in the right conditions. The big challenge is if you have an iron keel because this requires really good prep (blasting) to get it to stick.

Encapsulated modified long keel so that's fine, I should have got my move on when I got her out 6 weeks as we have had pretty good weather, but between full time work and insulating / relining it has all taken rather longer than I planned.

So I got an update, they have a UK installer now but haven't done many boats here yet. Was only invented 7 years ago, so the longer term behaviour is unknown. It is Big In Germany. Quoted around 2k for my 38 square meter hull. Which isn't bad, can be applied outside. Might go for it, that's probably less than I would be coughing up for a pro coppercoat application, certainly when it involves a shed
