Re: Smallish alloy motorboats.

During my many many boat buying expeditions only ever came across one alloy motor boat.It was a 35ft something or other and was virtually being given away for its scrap price as owner was unable to sell it.Many of this type of boat appear to be kits or home builds and the design of the one we went to see in Norfolk left a lot to be desired including the twin V8 rover petrols which actually protruded into the aft cabin.Ended up buying a plastic boat.If you find one you like fine, they are prob. a very nice boat but you may have problems selling on later.

care to add a bit of background. Forgive me if you have a wealth of experience, but sometimes peoples ambitions (re singlehanded to France) might be more suited after a season or two under the belt. If so, people may have more advice on what would make sense meantime.

Hi Matt - welcome to the forum. We need a bit more to go on here. Size, number of berths, price guide maybe?

I honestly wouldn't go for aluminium. There aren't enough available skills to maintain such boats, if problems arise, and you will be contiuosly fighting a losing battle when it come to dissimilar metals corrosion.

Go for something more mainstream. Size-wize?? well above 30 foot LOA becomes a little more tricky to single hand umless you have experience and techiques. Channel crossing?? Experience, qualifications and two engines spring to mind.
