Hi everyone we are about to buy our first motor boat..We have decided on either a sealine s29 or sc29 with twin diesels. Can one of you knowledgable chaps give me some info please..What is the real cost to own one of these as we are told so many different things..Mooring? we want to be on the south coast preferably..real costs of things like servicing etc per year? Will this sleep 3-4 comfortably for weekends and the occasional week or will we go mad? Many thanks for your help..

Hi,

I've got the S28 with twin diesels, and couple of others here have the S29/SC29 and will be along shortly.

Approx cost of running:
Marina Fees - £3750
Servicing - £1200, less once you start doing things yourself
Insurance - £450
Diesel - £1200, double after end 2008

Fine to sleep 2 for a week, or 4 for the odd night, but 4 for a week: you're going to end up loving or hating each other...

dv.

Nice boats. My personal fav is the S29 - it is one of the boats we have benchmarked our own 34 against. I just can't get on with the greenhouse on the SC. DV is about right on Marina costs - about £400/metre. Servicing doesn't HAVE to be done by a VP agent so long as they us VP parts and service according to the correct schedule - oh, and you keep a record in the event of a warranty issue.

S/SC29 is perfect for a couple for any period up to several weeks. For a couple plus a second couple you will fine for a weekend, and probably fine for a week if you are good friends. Dont forget uless it is the height of summer or you are in the med ll the internal space is beds with 4 on board.

Shouldn't put you off though, just how it is.

And of course don't forget training. If it's your first boat then think about having a few days of own boat tuition. The 29'S have a stepped hull and it can make reversing a challenge at times.

if you break down the cost per year vs how ofte you'll use it you probably wouldnt buy one although that said these long hot summers make it all worth while! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

i ve got s28, much same comments as above
but biggest cost will be depreciation on buying new but thats your priliveldge, another added cost maybe maintenance and upkeep if you dont live locally, but buying new hopefully this will be much reduced, best of luck

Hi everyone..many thanks for the quick response. i figured £10k per year would cover it so i wasnt to far off..by the way with my budget its going to be a second hand one..ive seen a couple that fall within it..Anything else similar i should be looking at? within £110000 preferably not over say 3 years old?
