Hi

I came back to Penton Hook yesterday evening from a trip to Hampton Court. No real problems until we got to Chertsey Lock about 2 mins to 7pm when the lock keeper put up a self service sign and went home.

I have never operated one of the Thames Locks manually before so panic started to set in, luckily another boat appeared behind us and the lady on board new what to do, she gave a us a quick lesson on operating the lock.

I know there are instructions by the lock controls, but can anyone point me to a publication on the net detailing how to operate the locks. I have done a quick search both on this forum and the net but can't find anything official.

Even to us "experienced" boaters it can a bit intimidating to operate the lock, especially if you have not done it for some while.
Just take you time and do not let anybody rush you
Your safety and the care of your boat is the prime consideration when transiting.
