Did a Comp Crew course in May with the wife through Tiger Bay sailing. Really enjoyable. Sailed from Cardiff to Bristol one weekend. Sunny and warm but no wind going up the channel.

Next weekend we sailed to Watchet and had a meal and several beers in the Star, which I notice is a favourite on the forum. Very wet and cold sail back to Cardiff /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Great photos and welcome to the forum.

I'm new to this aswell. You've already been further than me, my furthest destination to date is Barry.

Hope to get over to Watchet soon

If you like you can join/ follow us one weekend for Bristol or somewhere. Once you have done it it's easy. Good for the kids too. Only trouble is your boat is much quicker.

I ‘ll take you up on your offer particularly for Bristol. Looks a bit more tricky than my first planned adventure i.e. Watchet, tidal stream across harbour entrance excluded.

Steve, let us know when is good for you and we will shoot up there with you for support. It's really easy and a great adventure if you have never been up the Avon. Also any other boats welcome to follow if your a bit unsure.
Andy.

Second that, I'm fed up of all this rain now !

If you a trip over to Bristol then we'd like to tag along also. We hoped to do Watchet a few weekends back but the visibility wasn't great so we didn't want to risk it, being our first time out in the channel as well.

Thanks for the positive replies peeps. I used that photobucket thingy and followed the instructions on the other thread.

Think some of you have wires crossed or I have confused matters. The boat is owned by Tiger bay sailing. I haven't got a boat myself (heh). Its a Bavaria 37. Lots of room below. Very nice. One of the guys on the course is thinking of buying a bilge keeler for about £20,000 so hoping to crewe on that.

I'd love to cruise in company but I'd have to swim at the moment....

Am going to do Day Skipper Theory course in September with the wife then hopefully Day Skipper Practical next spring. Will defineatly goto the Southampton Boat show this year. Been subscribing to Yachting Monthly for years now and been viewing the forum.

Bit breezy for going out in the Channel at the moment. Suppose your all landlocked until better weather. I'll pray for a nice Force 4-5 for you all.

A ha--- hence the name Noboat Matt. Plenty of our cruising boats (CBYC) always want crew and it's the best way to learn...really good bunch aswell. Would say come away with us but with baby on board thats enough!
I'll let you know if i shoot off on my own one day for a short trip.

We never book up for the Festival Weekend.Just go Lock in and pay the normal harbour dues, You wont be on a pontoon right up in St Augustines Reach but will allways find somewhere to tie up near the Cottage Pub Baltic Wharf.Only a short walk (or go in the dinghy) to the center .Also probably a bit quieter if you intend to sleep at some stage during the night.

There are toilets and showers in the building behind the harbour masters office open until about 10 pm in summer.

Im working that weekend this year unfortunately. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Harbour Festival? Sleep?
Some I know stayed up until dawn last year! I gave up and hit my bunk about 2 AM, mind you, I was the one feeling fine the next day!
Come on over, usually a great weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For the benefit of all the guys interested in group sailing to learn the ropes - it really is worth while joining one of the clubs and enrolling on their club cruises. None of the clubs round here are the slightest bit snobby / Yacht-club-with-warrant and you pick up info from the mostly very friendly members in a way you never will from a sailing school.

CBYC is really a marina with club these days, newport uskmouth is the traditional moorings in a river club, with CYC somewhere in between. visit them all before deciding.

sorry but I know little about barry as a club.

Re: New to all this - Baltic Wharf

Watch out there - the quay side is very low with lots of things sticking out, so any wash tends to pop the fenders out and make nice grooves in the gelcoat. I know cos it happened to me last weekend!

Don't know if it is still stands but CBYC members can use the club sail boats. Good way to get out on the water.
