I have a Ribeye 3.5m RIB with a yamaha 4 stroke 20hp and single seat console. The tubes are tired and worn, the power tilt needs a good service and the hull needs a going over as gel coat is worn down from all the beachings.

Its a great work horse and goes really well but I have recently brought an Epropulsion outboard and love the no maintenance and silent running.

So I have 2 options

No 1 - sell it and buy a new AB 2.7 alu to go with the Epropulsion, easy to lift on my davits too.

No2 - take off engine and sell it, recondition hull, buy new tubes and use with Epropulsion. Bit too heavy and large for my davits so will tow when out and about.

Money spent will be almost the same either option.

What would you do?

As someone in the market for a new tender (yours is too big for my needs) and seeing lots of "sold out" and "available 2022" - If you can physically buy a new tender, your old one will likely sell quite easily at potentially a premium price just now!

I thought the same. It's a great combo, economical, reliable and fast. Would be a shame to see her go hence the quandary I'm in.
The Yam 20hp is superb and the range is great, the Epropulsion is no contest except the maintenance requirements and that's where the position changes. For me the elec outboard needing no maintenance, charges off my solar power etc means it fits my future cruising requirements very well. Umm ebay looking very likely. Ribeye for sale ?

Having had my AB 2.1 m Aluminium bottomed RIB now for 10+ years, and beached it on rocks, sand, gravel and mud, I would not ever have anything else. I have gone through 3 different outboards over the years.

Are looking for a similar performance with the electric outboard or happy with a displacement speed?

The reason I ask is that as you reduce the size of the RIB, they become more difficult to get on the plane. A 3m RIB will be easier to get on the plane than a 2.5m RIB with the same engine (eg a 10hp).

How do you find such a small tender as 2.1m? My last tender was 2.3m seago round tail but felt too small and toy like...

Buy a tender to suit the epropulsion unit.

Keep the other one until you are more certain you won't miss it.

I'm assuming you can switch them easily, leaving one at home, ashore or wherever.
That is probably the best idea. I can keep it and still play with it yet still go ahead and buy the AB to suit my Epropulsion (y)
