I went on the one at SIBS last year. Stepped hull. Big cockpit. Not masses of accommodation. The show one had a fairly slinky paint job. Can have surface drives or sterndrives, I think.
Thanks benjenbav. Was the helm well laid out? Accommodation is tight I believe having just 1 double berth but that's the nature of the beast. I understand engine options include twin/triple stern drives or twin surface drives.
I have a Superhawk 34 (LOA 37 feet!!) and there isn't much more accommodation in the 43. Saying that usual beautiful interior and workmanship.
Note of caution...the paint job is just that...paint. the colour isn't part of the GRP so when (not if!) you scratch it you'll need a tin of silver paint standing by.
In gay paris at mo so cant get at my albums so all i have is this rather pathetic pic from a few weeks ago.
twin or triple motors, one at show had yanmars with merc legs peeps that have driven one say goes like stink but tiny cabin, tis really a day boat thing but is top stuff.
Ii have had a few SH34's and a late SH48. I ordered a SH43 a few years back before it was released but have since cancelled the order. It was working out at a shade under £300k with D6-350's and a sensible spec and a small discount. The only real reason for cancelling was that when I ordered the boat it was rumoured to have a small aft cuddy type cabin, bit like on a sail boat, ideal for the kids. As it turns out it does not. If it did I would have gone for it without doubt.
I really like the boat and will probably buy one when they hit the low 200's the accommodation is well laid out and has full standing room and a decent size heads unlike the 34. It looses out to the 48 which has the separate fwd cabin.
The Pullman style bunk beds in the saloon look like a waste of time and need some sort of modification to make them work properly. The galley is well laid out and works well.
Cockpit is large and well laid out, the large bathing platform is ideal for swimming off etc. The helm is average layout, nothing special.
Given I use my boats in the UK it made more sense to go for a 2nd hand Portofino Hard Top boat for about £100k more. No where near as fun to drive and blast about on but its the sensible option as my family has stated to enjoy the boat again, also I would think the depreciation on the 43 will be quiet steep in the first couple of years.
I have the full options list and prices on email if you would like them
Overall the boat is very sleek and does what a superhawk should!
At that size, have you considered a Hunton 43? With the new 370's it'll get close to 50 knots, is available with an open plan or with a closed off forward cabin and "cosy" mid cabin too. I certainly prefer it over the Superhawk.
Having not been on either (though have been on the larger and smaller Superhawks), my understanding (could be wrong!) is that the Hunton is truly built for purpose. It'll take more of a pounding. Not as sexy looking though.
Being a parent of young kids (both born on Sunday, hence my name), the mid-cabin on the Hunton is also a deal-maker.
Have you seen the movie "Sahara"? Hunton(s) used on that. Only with twin 315hp Yanmars through jets, but it moves!
You don't need a chest wig and a gold medallion to own the Hunton?
Seriously, the RS43 is the bees knees. Went on one at SIBS last year and it is superb. Helm is just right, and there is a decent amount of space below. Trip engines if you want them as well.
If you want to go really nuts, you could go for the stripped down XRS43, but I wouldn't as it seemed a bit to focused. The RS43 was a boat you could muck around in all day, or go for a longer weeks cruise in comfort.
Sounds fun magnum. The Hunton is a superbly made machine. Would also be worth looking at say Baia43 (acquired taste looks-wise, but nice layout www.baiayacht.it) and Rivarama (42 foot). Or if you want to go very fast then a Fountain or Cigarette, esp with cheaper dollar. Less dealer support with these models of course, but frankly dealer support aint up to much anyway.
Also if you want a quick blast very fast those winged Bladerunner things (icemarine.com or .co.uk) are said to be selling 2nd hand for loose change prices, around £30k, not the £80k asking prices, so you can hardly go wrong at that price if you just want a few months (fast) playing around while the Superhawk or whatever gets built
I'd have a look at the SS48 as well, with triple KAD300s it'll push 48knots cruises well at 39knts and has the forward berths seperate from the main cabin. You'd have to drive one to really feel the magic of it.
If you're looking at a cigarette, the 39 Top gun is the one to go for imho. twin 525s will get you 90mph.
