Hi Everyone,

I’ve been lurking on the forum for about a year, greedily devouring all of the amazing expertise on the forum to help me decide on what boat to buy. So I finally plunged in and bought a Storebro, and I thought I’d take the opportunity to say hi to everyone properly & thanks for all of the helpful insights.

So here is what I ended up with: A Storebro 410 Commander from 2008 powered by two D6 370s with 170 hours on the clock:

The picture is in Port St Mary in the Isle of Man, just close to her new home in Peel Marina. I brought her up from Plymouth where she has been berthed since 2008. It was a three day journey in August, with my youngest daughter and Alex the Skipper, a brilliant professional delivery guy, who helped me rapidly learn the ins and outs of the boat. Tantallon behaved beautifully and we cruised at around 18-20kns all of the way home and the engines seemed to return about 75 Lt/hour.

Aside from the delivery journey we spent a few of the remaining weekends of the Summer messing around, around the Island. So far so good - she seems like a very solidly built boat full of quite a few neat design features and we’ve been out in very heavy chop (not entirely on purpose) and the boat coped remarkably well (far better than my crew).

Sadly I’m going to be winterising her next weekend. Since the purchase the only major job I have done has been removing all of the varnish that the previous owner put on all of the teak decking, which was peeling off, pitted and generally looking horrible (before and afters are shown below for those interested).

Anyway, I’d love to hear from any other Storebro Commanders on the forum, not least as the winter is going to see me mess with the electronics (adding AIS) and starting a major bit of re-upholstery....in preparation for what I hope will be several summer excursions to Scotland and Ireland...

Best wishes

Guy

Congratulations, a lovely looking boat. Although it’s been hard work removing it, the varnish seems to have protected the teak very effectively.

Congratulations Guido,

Storebro build good solid boats. I was on a delivery trip in 2001, collecting a new 475 Royal Commander from the factory in Vastervik back to the South Coast.
I couldn't get over how quiet the boat was and the flat calm, blue sky weather in the Baltic made for a most memorable trip.

I did quite a lot of work on the boat over the following years, adding bits and pieces and it's not until you get behind the trim panels and head linings etc. that you fully appreciate how well built a boat is. The build quality of what wouldn't normally be seen was as good as the rest of it.

I hope you enjoy many years happy motoring in her.

Great choice of boat and congratulations on your purchase.

I had a 2004 Commander a few boats back and ran her out of Pwllheli North Wales and regularly stopped in Port St Mary on the way back from our Irish trips.

Storebro certainly know how to build a quality boat , pity they closed in the recession. Like you we experienced very economical cruising figures and they run so quietly and relaxed. Was very tempted three years ago to get the coupe version , Nimbus Nova 42/43 .

Enjoy

Cheers
