Hi,

I will be replacing my steering hub and cable this season. I have come to the conclusion that I will go for Ultraflex. They seem to have a very excellent cable M90 and easy connectivity but my question is which steering hub from Ultraflex you guys will choose…. They have two high end steering hubs with planetary gears that I consider - a T91 and a T93ZT... The only difference is that with 93ZT there is no feed back (the steering wheel will stay whereever you set it) while T91 will return to forward position when you loose your grip. Any of you guys have an idea which one gives the best feeling? - Pricewise 93ZT steering hub is much higher in price but is it positive that the steering has no feed back ?

Hope you can give me a good advise.

PS - The boat has 2 large diesels on sterndrive. The steering is assisted by a power assisted ram so cable steering (as fitted original) works fine. I have considered the hydralic steering but I believe the above will give me a very good set up for a lot less money and (installation).

I would have thought that you want one that stays where you set it unless it's a racing boat of some sort.
Reason being, any cross wind or trim imbalance will require a constant small correction.
Having to continually provide any kind of constant input force will get very boring very quickly without an autopilot.

Thanks your quick reply.

Your point duly noted. I do have an autopilot though so I basically use the steering wheel only in small passages, when crowded or when docking (in/out).
Will that change your point of view ?

On a cruising boat, I still think I would want one that stayed put.
I can see the advantage of being able to feel the centre position on a racing boat where you are making lots of small quick corrections.
