What deranged person has invested in brand new engines for this shed?

I wonder whether the kitchen/storage units, worktops and those stairs are veneer over marine ply or veneer over something inferior.

I reckon the kitchen (it ain't a galley) ones are straight out of an MFI showroom or similar, as seen in newbuild flats and cheaply-tarted-up rental properties :)

Had a scout around for the company that is offering it for sale and they look to have a number of moulds in their yard. Maybe it has all been done properly, maybe extra thickness and stiffeners have been added. The problem is there is no way of knowing.

Is the reason it is being offered unfinished something to do with RCD? seem to remember something about not needing an RCD certificate if it is a self build for own use and not sold for 5 years. Maybe wrong but guessing getting it through it's RCD is not going to be cheap if the people fitting it choose to go that route.

Someone somewhere will buy a cheap SC35 kit boat. Whether it is a bargain or a liability I guess lies in the quality of work and that remains to be seen.

Those door fronts are MFC (melamine faced chipboard) and at a guess, I'd say the worktop is 40mm thick blocked walnut (untreated), the stairs look like 30mm blocked walnut (oiled). Would be a cheap way to do them but not sure how long they would last before cupping.

Boj, I gotta say the stairs look nothing like 30mm to me. More like 15. I fear the blocking is just a printed melamine pattern ie MFC. And the worktop might be melamine faced too but I can't tell from picture. This stuff just won't last in a boat.

If it is being done commercially the seller will have to provide a Certificate of Conformity for the boat to its current state of completion and then the new owner will not have to do anything else if he keeps it 5 years. If, however this is a private seller he will need the Certificate from the point at which he bought the boat and then get it certified as it is now as he has not launched or used it for a 5 year period. Known as a rock and a hard place.

Maybe he has all the documentation for the hull but he will need to get everything together for the fitting out work and the engines etc and get a certifying body to issue the certificate.

Seems unlikely if, as suggested, it was never built as a hull. Rather it was built as a "boat-shaped object" for display purposes only.

Even if someone tried to reinforce it and turn it into a boat, there's unlikely to be any documentation for that.

Agree, it's difficult to tell for sure, just zoomed in and see the worktop looks 40mm and might just be a square edge chipboard laminate, a lot of the current timber laminates are very realistic, the stairs are def thicker than 15mm as the doors are at least that but more likely 18mm, in any case it all looks a bit reclaimed and not up to marine standard. No bids so far..

Looking at the engines I would be surprised if they are new, just take a look at the pallets they are on and the banding. From what factory visits I have made to builders, VP lumps came fully crated on new purpose made pallets, not on standard euro pallets with shrink wrap round them.

More likely reclaimed and refurbed, Will they even be the same age? numbers could be miles apart with different parts for each engine.

Those are also non standard large mid cabin hull windows. Id want to know how they were cut in and what implications it has for the structure.

This thing is worth whatever the engines and drives are worth, less the cost of cutting the thing up and disposing of it.
Even original 2008 SC35s arent worth £150k. Probably closer to £100k and this would be significantly (like half) less than that if complete and running with the papers intact.

True, I misread the advert and thought it was claiming new engines about to be fitted. On re-checking, it doesn't say they're new and I agree they certainly aren't.
