I have decided that my tan sails are looking "over repaired" and I want a new set for this year. I have approached Kemp and Arun both who make quite a lot for my make of boat.

Does anyone have any good links for advice on different fabrics, styles and their application to different conditions and types of boats ? Are there any other reasonable cost suppliers ?

Avoid challenge material, haywards seems to be better by far.
Might i suggest a quote from quay sails in dorest who worked out 50% cheaper than my local sailmaker who laser cuts the panels himself.

This price was for two tan jibs 98 sq foot each local sailmaker = 1000 pounds using a budget sailcloth, quay sails quoted me 548 using haywards which im told is one of the best tan cloths around.

this is only my opinion and i dont work for either company

I second Quay sails recommendation - I got quotes from Kemp, Arun, Crusader etc. - Quay Sails worked out cheaper than all (very significantly cheaper than my local sailmaker too), AND quoted for the same fabric as the most expensive quote, and included all the items I wanted in the spec.
All in all, Ive ended up ordering a lot more than I originally intended, and I've been very happy with the service so far. I've ordered some canvas as well, based on previous favourable comments on the forum as well as price comparison.

One thing I learned was do your homework as to what you want included in the spec, and only then start price shopping.
