My Hood Vectran main and genoa are almost 10 years old, extensively used, half the year sailing for the past five years. They have no detectable stretch or mis-shape, set very well and still look great. Genoa stitching at the UV strip has been redone twice, minor stitching repairs otherwise. Just had the genoa assessed by a sailmaker who says it will do many seasons yet.
By comparison my Hood Vectran main and genoa are two and a half years old, extensively used and in need of replacing. (I replaced the main a year ago but at £2500 only bring the new one out on special occasions otherwise let people loose on the old one.) Just received a quote today from them for a new Genoa in Vectran. £2500.
Try Dolphin Sails .. They made us a great Cruising Chute .. Very helpful .. They do make their sails themselves so you are also supporting British sail making .. Not the cheapest quote we had but they answered questions and emails .. Also delivered sail to Half Penny Pier and threw it onboard as it was rather windy and very choppy .. Five Stars .. *****
Depends what you want them for? I have gone for two new head sails in a cruising laminate, only becaue I do a bit of charter work and the punters want soemthing that "looks" the part.
Personnaly I would have gone for dacron. My new main is dacron. As its in mast furling I see no point in lashing out on expensive cloth for a sail that can not achieve a perofmace shape.
Talk to a good sail maker and they will guide you through the selection process and the mireade of options/additions.
