Yippee- my new genoa has just arrived in a box big enough to bury several people in. I've got high expectations after the blown out sail it is replacing, but the question is

WILL I NOTICE A DIFFERENCE THIS WEEKEND

or will it all be placebo effect.

I'm actually a bit nervous because I measured the boat myself, including some really difficult measurements, so if the sail doesn't fit, it's all my fault.

Watch this space.

Oh dear .. the sailmaker measured my genoa, but when they made it forgot to take account of the length of the attachment points, so when I hauled it up I pulled the sail head through the top roller reefing bearing, worth keeping an eye on it .. however I'm sure you'll notice a real real difference .. enjoy!

Of course you'll notice a difference. She'll go upwind like a witch on speed. If the sun comes out you'll need an extra pair of sunglasses. Oh, and when it first goes up anyone or anything to leeward will be showered with little bits of thread.

Where did you get the new sail from if you don't mind me asking. Since the boat show I am buried in quotes for a new genoa. Currently leaning towards Kemps but having difficulty convincing SWMBO about the benefits of laminate.

I got a new laminate genoa from Dolphin Sails last year (extemely helpful and professional team) and it has made an enormous difference after the old blown-out one (looks prettier too!). I'm sure SWMBO will appreciate getting everywhere faster next season.

Got it from Kemps- It's their boatshow offer of upgrade to super doooper cruising laminate and also 15% discount. Sail was delivered today- I only faxed the measurements last Friday- very impressed with the service. Kemps definately came up with the most appealing quotes and were just generally more helpful and enthusiastic.

Fortunately, SWMBO is always happy spending on the boat as it's her hobby as much as mine.

Agreed- I'm down in Devon and the front has hit- grey windy and wet. Looks like I'm going to have to do some DIY in the kitchen this weekend.
