New sail bag and lazy line question

The newly manufactured zip up sail cover was delivered yesterday just as I headed home for a couple of weeks.
Anyway it looks great but obviously no time to fit it. However the sail maker was very insistent that the lazy lines pulleys are attached 4mts above the bag.
Didn't have time to measure but that looks about a meter above the Cross trees.
I was planning on fixing the pulleys to the cross trees were the old lines were fixed. There are handy fixing points we're they meet the mast.
How crucial is the 4m measurement?

Mine are above the spreaders, tiny blocks pop riveted to the mast. The more vertical the lines, the less strain on them, but I don't think it's hugely critical. You could try by simply passing the lines over the spreaders and see how it works before committing yourself. It's what I did when I was first experimenting with lazyjacks

I can't think why they need to be exactly 4m above the bag. I've been adjusting mine so my fully battened sail does not catch on them during a hoist.

Fixing top of lazyjack lines to midpoint of spreaders opens the gap between port and starboard lazyjack lines and reduces "catching" of batten ends on lazyjacks if not quite dead to wind. Just don't bend spreaders down....

I'll try the lines over the spreaders to start with and take it from there.

Height can be important. If the lazyjacks are attached to the mast too low down they will not work as well as they should, with more risk of part of the sail spilling out when dropped.
