Michel Desjoyeux is promoting a new race for 50' monotype boats starting and finishing in Brest, with stopovers at La Réunion, Tahiti, and Guadaloupe.
The reasons are that it is thought that the budget would be about a quarter of that of the Vendée and so should attract a wider range of sponsors.
Also there is too big a gap in size between the Solitaire de Figaro boats and the Vendée boats.
