Yesterday evening I was out sailing, cos it was light winds I rigged a gybe preventer and poled out the genoa whilst on starboard tack and sailed backwards to test the rudder, just at that a mobo called "Foxey Lady" shot past pursued by another Mobo called "Unspeakable" the resultant wash caused my tea to spill and stain my nice teak decks. They called loudly and agressively to say I was displaying the wrong lights. I then sailed through a racing fleet shouting "starboard" and "water" to everyone. However they hollered back that I was actually on port, well anyway thing started getting heated and I ended up telling the helm aboard one boat to go forth and multiply. To my utter amazement she started reciting the seven times table but got stuck at 7 X3 .. standards of education nowadays .. tut tut .. anyway I bumped into Ellen on the pontoon, very pleasant young lady although she looked at me a bit askance when I asked what the weather forecastt for tomorrow is. Next report tomorrow on my next attempt to sail round the IoW backwards.

What you need for a backward around the IoW record is a tow. I'll be happy to oblige, though you might want to make sure the washboard is in place, as 40+ knots in reverse is likely to put a bit of the green stuff aboard you

I think you'll find that the Guinness book of records rules for backwards sailing records preclude any form of tow.
No what he wants to do is to fit an extra gooseneck so the boom sticks out the front then hank the genoa onto the backstay. That ought to do it.
Oh, and the best way to get tea stains of your teak decks is hydrofluoric acid. The vapour does sting the eyes a bit, so be sure to wear a full NBC suit and rebreather, and if you don't wash it off quickly it can burn through to the keelbolts, but it does shift the stains.

Can't you just swing the white flappy thing around 180 deg. As for your story about displaying the wrong lights... Do us a favour, we all know us mobo's wouldn't have a clue.
