further to my earlier post about the new bow thruster problem. The unit has now been inspected (the boat is in Croatia and I am in UK) and they say that the fuse has blown and burnt out together with the fuse holder also burnt out.

I was told that there was a thermal cutout switch that was there to stop this sort of thing happening. They are replacing the fuse and the fuse holder. Do you think that there may be some other problem here or could it have been caused by too long a burst on the motor? If it works after they replace the fuse should I leave it at that or try to have it investigated further?

Given that the fuse is there to protect the other stuff, it's good that it's blown.

I would guess that you have to go along with the repair, and give it a thorough sea test including the same conditions as when it first blew. Perhaps ask them to attend the trial as it is a warranty repair.

It might also be worth finding the specs and a diagram of it to see how the thermal cut out arrangement works, (it might be a posh name for fuse?), and to make sure there is a shear pin.

Fuses blow, we replace them, and things work.... in general. If they blow again, there is an underlying problem.
