Been similar ones and the slot is copied from the propellers as modified on the Hong Kong Macau hydrofoil ferries back in the 70s where it was found to stop cavitation which was destroying the props.

Well I am angry and disappointed.
I spent a minute and a half of my life watching that video - Time I can never get back....
