Never mind the plotter , how's the pilot???? Take it you won't bring it back to the hamble to have one fitted.

Haaaaaa haaaaaaa

Nice one Paul

All good up in North Wales, the local Raymarine guys correctly fitted the third motor etc and no probs.

Boat is running a treat, have put 70 hours on her since you serviced her and touch wood not one problem , except the plotter screen keeps playing up so am looking at the nice new 12 inch ones which will fit nicely. It's either garmin or raymarine in our Marina elevtronics shop and I do want to support them .

Nice tea on board tonight including some freshly caught mackerel. Magic

Cheers

I fitted garmin 6000 series, and was thoroughly impressed with it.
But, there again, i dont know anythingnabout the older generation of equipment to compare..

I would buy the same again if i needed to, if thats enough recomendation.

The new Raymarine C and E Series are absolutely brilliant. I would highly recommend them.
However, the older C Series screen issue is well known about. In most cases all you need to do is dismantle the unit and reassemble it and the screen issue will be fixed. The issue is caused by one of the internal connectors. It's where two boards join. It needs removing and reseating inside. Takes 30 minutes.

fixed a friends raymarine plotter display issue by disconnecting the seatalk connection to the other instruments first. Internal power supply problem in the plotter itself. With the load off the seatalk bus, plotter works fine (this was 5 years ago and its still working). I then rewired the other instruments to run off 12v and then reconnected the seatalk bus with the red (+12v) wire disconnected. Plotter can communicate but doesnt have to power up the other bits and pieces. I think its caused by loss of capacitance (electrolytic capacitors loose fluid over time especially if hot) in the internal switch mode converter.

Hi Talulah

Lets hope it's that. Have you any more detailed instructions ?

The following is for when the screen is displaying distorted vertical lines.

1 Pull off the main cover. Fingernails round the edges and of it comes!

2 Remove the chart plotter from it's housing and take all the connections off the back. Make a note of the the Seatalk connections as it is possible to put them back on the wrong terminals.

3 Take out all the screws (about 15) that hold the black plate. One is under the "warranty void" sticker and another is under another sticker.

4 Ease the clips around the edges to lift the black plate off.

5 Lift off the glass cover in front of the screen before it falls off.

6 DON'T remove the screen. You have to work from the other side.

7 Check the little circuit board that has the connector onto the screen. It will probably be displaced. Manoeuvre it until it is properly seated and clicked into place.

8 If necessary you can take off the other circuit boards to get better access. There is one metal spacer with a screw in. Otherwise you just have to spring back the plastic clips.

9 Now put it all back together.

Thanks Talulah for the excellent instructions, much appreciated. All carried yesterday but unfortunately no better. With the summer holidays rapidly approaching I am going to order a new plotter this morning with the raymarine/ garmin dealer in our marina . The raymarine c125 with a 12 inch screen looks favourite and will come with a 3 year on board warranty.
