For info:
We are having some new Piles in Portsmouth harbour which are to be used when entering and exiting....
See 2 NTM (14/05 and 15/05) on website (http://www.portsmouth-port.co.uk/pmsc/pm17004.htm). One of them has a pretty picture. Gist of it is:
2. On the morning of the 28 April 2005 Ballast Buoy will be recovered from its current charted position, just to the north west of the Harbour Entrance. A red, port hand pile will then be driven to fulfil the buoys navigational requirement in a comparable position. It will be known as “Ballast Pile” and utilise the same light character, ie Flashing RED every 2.5 seconds. (Position 50°47’.62N 001°06’.83W)
3. Further more, a new Port Hand Red Pile (Position 50°47’.32N 001°06’.68W) is to be positioned half a cable south of Fort Blockhouse, it will be known as “BC Outer” with the following light character, Occulting RED every 15 seconds. (NB Not to be confused with the Directional Light at Fort Blockhouse) Both this mark and Ballast pile are referred to in Portsmouth Local Notice to Mariners 15/05.
