Having a gander at the Navionics website I noticed there is a new, single Navionics app for iPhones and iPads. It seems to follow the growing trend of offering a single app, and offering in-app purchases for the features you're after. That's fine.
However, the page mentions the legacy apps (bought 2008-2011) are unusable with iOS 7. I've just given my Navionics Europe app a try on my iPhone and it appears to work fine? Anyone know what's going on?

I had to download the new navionics app which has wave lines underneath. The old version did not work and a message appeared on screen saying incompatible with new OS. It appeared at first to be ok but after using it for a while the GPS function was erratic and the map scale and zoom didn't refresh.

Hmm. The versions I have (UK and Europe) seem to be the ones with the wave lines underneath. Come to think of it, 2011 is quite a while ago, so I may have the versions that came out just after that.

I was doing some more research by looking on the App Store, and it looks like the versions I have are still available. So it's not just a single app, there's a few options:
Single app and then add on any charts you wish
App with bundled set of charts, then add any extra features.

Gets even more interesting, if you want the entire European charts, it's actually cheaper to buy the Navionics Europe app than it is to buy the basic app and then buy all the smaller, separate European charts.

Joy!

At least the apps I have continue to work. :p

This is what they do. Bring out a new app and cease updates on the old ones, so you have to pay again. Totally contrary to how the App Store is meant to work.

I know you came a cropper with Navionics but I paid £30 in 2011 and have had free chart updates ever since, still works fine. I know some year it'll stop working but it doesn't owe me much does it?

I think the Navionics apps are good value.Mine works fine for UK and Holland and it cost £18 and has been updated.Bear in mind if I want to update exactly the same charts on my chart plotter it will cost about £100.About the same for other chart options e.g.C map.Perhaps people expect too much for a small amount of money.
