Well I did think I knew all the nautical terms middle-aged yachties like to shout at their crew and partners in marinas and was familiar with salty sea dog terminology.

Well, as they say every day is a school day.......I've been reliably informed by our club Bosun that I was 'sandwiched' yesterday!

I was enjoying the flat calm waters of the Medway having a potter around the moorings on my new stand up paddle board (which is great fun if you're thinking of getting one!) when 2 jet skis approached at speed.

I was initially pleased when they slowed to somewhere around 3 times the 6 knot speed limit, more chance of seeing me and taking avoiding action, possibly a new breed of considerate PWC users.

Unfortunately this was not the case, they had just slowed slightly to grunt at one another before spotting me, altering course and thrashing past at full chat feet away, one on each side of me, completing a nautical 'sandwich'!

I can assure you being the sandwich filling wasn't much fun!

PWC rant over. I feel much better now..... please share your stories.....!

I did have a motorboat + water skier come storming past and then cut across my bow, at which point the skier fell off about 20 metres in front of me (I was minding my own business on autopilot doing about 6 knots) .... I added 20° to my course and missed them by about 3-4m, almost had to put my beer down, just rolled my eyes and shook my head as they glided past.

The skier was more annoyed with the powerboat driver than I was, I was just glad the powerboat buggered off and I didn't run over their tow-line.
